SSNS Regional Championship Rules 

TIED GAMES - ALL GAMES EXCEPT FOR THE GOLD MEDAL GAME 

 If a game is tied at the end of regulation play, a sudden victory 4-on-4 five-minute overtime period will be played. 

o In the event of a penalty, the non-penalized team will add a player (5-4). o In the case of a second penalty the penalized team will remove a player (5-3).

  If a game is tied at the end of the first overtime, a 5-minute 3-on-3 sudden victory overtime period will be played. 

o In the event of a penalty, the non-penalized team will add a player (4-3). o In the case of a second penalty the non-penalized team will add a second player (5-3).

If the game is tied at the end of the second overtime we will go to a shootout o Three shooters alternating, one shot per shooter.

 

o If a tie still exists after three shooters, sudden victory takes place in the second round of shooters

o Only when all the skaters from the team with the fewest skaters on the game sheet have participated, will a team be allowed to repeat a shooter. 

o Home team gets to choose whether they want to shoot first or second in the shootout. 

o Whichever team shoots first to start the shootout, will shoot first throughout

TIED GAMES - CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL ONLY 

If a game is tied at the end of regulation play, a sudden victory 4-on-4 five-minute overtime period will be played. 

o In the event of a penalty, the non-penalized team will add a player (5-4). o In the case of a second penalty the penalized team will remove a player (5-3).

 If a game is tied at the end of the first overtime, a sudden victory 3-on-3 fifteen-minute overtime period will be played. 

o In the event of a penalty, the non-penalized team will add a player (4-3). o In the case of a second penalty the non-penalized team will add a second player (5-3). 

o If the game is still not decided at the end of the second overtime period the teams will play more 15-minute 3-on-3 periods until a winner is decided 

TIED GAME NOTES 

There will be no stoppage for cleaning ice. 

Teams will not change ends for overtime. 

There will be a 2-minute break put on the clock between all overtime periods 

ROUND ROBIN POINT SYSTEM (If the tournament style involves pool play) 

The three-point system will be used for the Regional championships: 

o 3 points for a regulation win 

o 2 points for an overtime/shootout win 

o 1 point for an overtime/shootout loss 

o 0 points for a regulation loss. 

TIES AFTER POOL PLAY (If the tournament style involves pool play) 

    After pool play, if two or more teams are tied in points, the following is the tie-breaker:

                        1. Total points earned in games amongst the tied teams. 

2. Most regulation wins in games amongst the tied teams. 

3. Most OT/shootout wins in games amongst the tied teams. 

4. Goal differential in games between the tied teams (goals for less goals against). 5. If still tied, repeat steps 1 to 4 but include the record of all the teams in pool, not just the tied teams.

6. If still tied, the higher standings will be determined on the ratio of goals for, to goals against to three (3) decimal places (goals for divided by goals against). In 

calculating this ratio only the records of the teams tied against each other shall be considered. 

7. If still tied, repeat step 6 but include the GF/GA of all teams. 

8. Fewest goals against in the games amongst the tied teams. Hi 

9. Most goals for in the games amongst the tied teams. 

10. If still tied, repeat steps 8 & 9, but include the goals against for all pool games.

11. Fewest penalty minutes. 

HOME TEAMS 

The home team for all games is the team listed second on the schedule ? Home will wear Dark jerseys, Away will wear Light jerseys 

The home team for any playoff games (quarters, semis, consolation, & championship) will be the team seeded higher after the round robin (if the tournament style involves pool play) 

A coin toss will be used to determine the home team in playoff games between teams with identical seedings (again, if the tournament style involves pool play) 

MISCELLANEOUS 

       Game length for both girls and boys is 3x15 minute, stop-time periods 

       Each game shall be preceded by a 5-minute warm up period 

 Boys During round robin play the ice is to be cleaned after the second and after warm up of next game.

 Boys teams are required to have a minimum of 13 skaters and 2 goalies to begin the first regional tournament game
